John had a 28-year career in Australian banking before moving to Asia in 1998. In the latter years of his banking career he specialized in the agricultural arena, initially developing new rural lending guidelines and later as an insolvency specialist. He undertook mediation training in 1994 to assist farmers and banks resolve their problems. He completed in excess of 100 mediations in Australia before relocating following the Asian crisis.
In Asia John continued with his mediation work to assist banks and their clients resolve liquidity issues. In addition, he has acted for stakeholders to restructure ailing companies via the court system. This mostly involved revising debt loads; introducing additional capital; and streamlining operations. Having participated in so many work-outs already, John uses his banking and mediation experience to provide innovative solutions to the most difficult of restructures.
He is currently heavily involved in the NPL market throughout SE Asia, identifying companies that are suitable for restructure, and then finding institutions to fund such restructures. On a daily basis he is in contact with many of the world’s largest investment banks and hedge funds to achieve this.
John is on the regional council of Baker Tilly in Australasia, representing both the Thailand and Myanmar offices.
